GENERAL INFORMATION:
Bevill State Community College is an accredited comprehensive learning-centered institution dedicated to providing quality educational opportunities and services that enrich lives intellectually, culturally, and economically. In fulfillment of this mission, the college offers academic and technical programs and activities. The college serves a population that is diverse in age and race as well as in economic and educational backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ten (10) years of experience in all major areas of police work, including crime prevention, law enforcement and administration with at least five (5) years at a management or supervisory level, or a bachelor’s degree in police science, administration of justice, sociology, criminology, public administration or related field and three (3) years of management in a police department. Preference will be give to individuals who have at least ten (10) years of experience as a Lieutenant or above at a Law Enforcement agency. Other qualifications include:
•        Alabama Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission Certified (required).
•        Ability to maintain professionalism and courtesy when dealing with others.
•        Ability to maintain personnel records for College Police Department.
•        Ability to tolerate exposure to weather conditions on outside duty.
•        Ability to tolerate considerable walking and 12 hour shifts.
•        Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
•        Valid Alabama Driver License required (CDL preferred).
•        Be CPR certified or willing to complete CPR course.
•        Certified and skilled in the use of lethal and nonlethal force.
•        Have computer skills and knowledge required to complete federal and state and college reports as required.
•        Able to maintain positive relations with the diverse college community and with local, state and federal agencies.

DUTIES: In addition to adhering to the guidelines as specified by Bevill State Community College Personnel Handbook and the State Board of Education, duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

1.        Supervising College Police Force.
2.        Maintaining records for state, federal and college reports.
3.        Scheduling police shifts and ensuring police coverage for College.
4.        Submit and maintain College Police Department budget.
5.        Maintain personnel records for College Police Department.
6.        Ensure that all College Police personnel are current in their continuing education and certification requirements.
7.        Train College Police personnel in College rules, regulations and policies.
8.        Keep current on College, local, state, federal and School Board policies, regulation, rules and laws.
9.        Make recommendations for changes to College rules and regulations as needed to the Executive Vice President and the College President.
10.        Recruit and recommend adjunct police officers for temporary assignment.
11.        Keep track of College calendar and events to ensure adequate police presence for safety and security of students, participants and attendees.
12.        Be present for student disciplinary hearings as required.
13.        Be vigilant in monitoring building and grounds to ensure security and safety and reporting any conditions which could result in injury or loss.
14.        Monitor students and visitors to ensure compliance with College policies and regulations.
15.        Ensure the College Police daily log book is up to date and accurate.
16.        Be a liaison between the College and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
17.        Monitor student gatherings on campus to ensure safety and security of students, participants and attendees.
18.        Maintain a good working relationship with campus security in the residence halls and the satellite campus sites.
19.        Assume all other duties assigned by appropriate supervisor.

SALARY RANGE: Minimum $40,000–maximum $55,000 based on experience and educational level for placement on the Alabama State Salary Schedule C3.
