Position Description:
Darton College, a new state residential college within the University System of Georgia, is seeking an academic leader for the Division of Health Sciences (Allied Health.) The Health Sciences Division includes Cardiovascular Technology, Dental Hygiene, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Emergency Medical Services, Health Information Technology, Histologic Technology, Human Services Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Polysomnography, Radiology Science and Respiratory Care. The individual selected should have high energy, creativity, and a firm grasp of the day-to-day operations essential to growing and sustaining the Division’s excellent academic reputation.

The Dean reports directly to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and must work closely with a team of peers on the President's Executive Council. He/she is responsible, within the Health Sciences Division, for developing and supervising all degree and certificate credit programs and budgets; for hiring and supervising all instructional personnel and academic support personnel and coordinating their professional development; for coordinating all specific program accreditation efforts in concert with the program managers in the Division; and for developing collaborative agreements with other institutions of higher learning. The Dean is expected to maintain strong collegial relationships with faculty, students, staff, and administrators. He/she will understand, promote, and support the use of instructional technology and will be expected to provide leadership in promoting a student-centered approach throughout the Health Sciences Division.

Duties & Responsibilities:
•Plan, coordinate and monitor all components of the Division.
•Supervise faculty and staff assigned to the Division.
•Mentor new faculty.
•Assess and plan for new programs and revision of existing programs and direct and oversee the development, approval, and implementation of new bachelor degree programs appropriate for a State College.
•Develop and implement long-range Divisional plans and goals.
•Plan, supervise and participate in student recruitment activities.
•Advise students in academic coursework.
•Serve on community, advisory, Division and college committees.
•Seek grants to support Division and college programs.
•Assist in preparation of specialized accreditation.
•Develop and conduct educational programs for the community.
•Recruit and screen for faculty appointments.
•Evaluate faculty and staff assigned to the Division.
•Recommend annual salary adjustments.
•Develop and manage Division budget.
•Act as Division representative to program advisory committees.
•As needed teach courses in area of educational background.
•Oversee the Division’s online marketing efforts to include hard copy brochures, Divisional and individual program pages on the College’s website and other web venues and social media mediums.
•Develop, implement and oversee the Division’s online Health Science Program
•Involvement in System and professional organizations related to the Health Sciences.
•Supervise a Division online support specialist dedicated to promoting, recruiting and assisting the Division’s online students.
•In unison with the other Division deans, work closely with the College’s Coordinator of Online Education program.
•Actively, aggressively, and continually work toward growing the Division’s online programs.
•Responsible for Divisional Fundraising.
•Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.
Qualifications:
•Master’s Degree in Health Sciences related field; Doctorate preferred. If a Master’s level candidate is selected, he/she must be willing to pursue a doctorate degree within five to seven years.
•A minimum of four years of successful teaching/managerial experience.
•Excellent interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
•Faculty recruitment and supervisory experience.
•Commitment to the teaching and learning process in a new State College.

Contract Provisions:
•Full-time, tenure track twelve-month position. Rank to be determined by qualifications.
•Starting date: Negotiable.
•Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
•Administrators receive all benefits provided by the University System of Georgia, including hospital and major medical insurance, group life insurance, Georgia Teachers' Retirement System, Social Security, liability insurance, and Workman's Compensation.

•Reports to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.

About Darton College: Darton College is a progressive, rapidly growing State College within the University System of Georgia. The main campus is located in the major city of Albany, with five satellite higher education centers located in the state.

Darton College, a State College within the University System of Georgia (USG) is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees and certificates. In May of 2011, the Board of Regents of the USG approved a mission change for Darton College from a two-year comprehensive community college to a State College offering select baccalaureate degree programs. The College’s application to the Commission on Colleges for a change from a Level I Institution to a Level II Institution is pending. Although a State College, Darton recruits both nationally and internationally. Opened in 1966, Darton College has experienced a growth rate of over 93% since 2001 and currently enrolls over 6,100 students in transfer and career two-year associate degree programs and one-year career certificate programs. Darton College also offers a comprehensive continuing education program.

The College is recognized throughout the state for its academic excellence in both its transfer and career programs. Approximately 50 percent of its students upon graduation transfer to senior colleges or universities. As the center for health sciences education in the southeastern United States, the College offers over 20 Health Science (Allied Health) Certificate and Associate Degree Majors. Over 2,000 students are currently enrolled in Darton’s one year certificate and two year associate degree Health Science Programs. In 2011, Darton College graduated more Registered Nurses than any other college or university, public or private, in the state of Georgia. At present, the College has over 700 student nursing majors.

Darton has one of the most comprehensive visual and performing arts programs in the University System offering dance (modern and ballet), drama, technical theatre, instrumental music, choral music, photography, digital photography, computer graphics, drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and broadcast journalism.

The Darton College Intercollegiate Athletic Program is one of the most comprehensive and successful two year collegiate athletic programs in the southeastern United States. The Cavaliers have won multiple NJCAA National Championships, Region Championships, Conference Championships, Academic Team of the Year honors, All American and Academic All American awards.

Darton's Physical Education/Athletic/Wellness Complex includes over 100,000 square feet of state-of-the-art venues for teaching, athletics and wellness programs. The complex includes a recreation gym, The Cavalier Arena, a fitness center, an aerobics/dance studio, a natatorium, indoor walking track, and classrooms. Additional outdoor facilities encompass a softball field, the Cavalier Baseball Complex that includes a covered baseball and softball batting facility, an eight court tennis facility, climbing tower and wall, two regulation soccer fields, cross country trails, outdoor volleyball courts, and several activity fields. The College is in the planning stage for developing a track and field facility, a wrestling facility, and an outdoor aquatics center.
